Food wise, this place is immaculate, worth five stars. Service wise, it loses a star. Staff are pretty unfriendly. However, the food is worth coming for if you want a great asian place to eat in Ottawa. We don't get this kind of Asian cooking unless we go to Spadina in Toronto. This is the closest it gets so if you're looking for a nice authentic asian meal, you'll get it here. The dim sum is great as well! The bird nest here is crunchy and flavourful, the Cantonese fried noodles is crispy but soft at the same time because of the sauce. BBQ pork buns are probably the best in town IMO.

OMG, I was treated to a huge feast here as part of a friend's birthday party and the food was really good. It was a 14 course meal! 12 courses plus 2 courses of dessert. We had a private party room for our group of 12 adults and 1 child. I'm pretty sure that I inadvertently saw the price because the restaurant posted a small piece of paper on the door to our room with my friend's name handwritten in (in English), a 14 item list pre-printed (in Chinese, so I couldn't read it), and then "$538" pre-printed. It looked like a page of a tear-away menu. They removed the paper after they served all the dishes, so I think this was a prompt for the staff.
My friend whose birthday it was is from Hong Kong and she said that Sea King is the most authentic and delicious Chinese restaurant in Ottawa. I have been to one Chinese wedding before (in Markham, ON) and the 14 course meal I had at Sea King was very reminiscent of the meal that I had at the wedding.
The restaurant has a main dining room and several smaller private rooms. We were in the smallest of the private rooms. We had a big round table with a lazy Susan in the middle. The restaurant was packed, so service for extra things like glasses of water, knives and forks, extra napkins, etc. was a bit slow. Standard service like bringing out the set courses was timely and efficient.
I'll summarize the courses.
1. Mixed platter of BBQ pork, sliced beef, Peking duck, sliced pork and jelly fish. I only had the first 3 items. Meats were not as lean as I like, but at least flavourful. The platter was served cold/room temperature. I would have preferred it hot.
2. Crab claws. Delicious! Minced shrimp wrapped around a crab claw topped with vermicelli then deep-fried. Crispy on the outside, with succulent shrimp paste on the inside. My favourite of all the courses.
3. Some sort of seafood soup. Was a bit gelatinous like hot and sour soup, but not spicy nor sour. Had strands of vermicelli-like things and scallops. Very tasty.
4. Some sort of white fish, stir-fried with snow peas, carrots, celery and straw mushrooms, on top of a flattened deep fried fish. I didn't eat the deep fried fish, but had the stuff on top and it was delicious. Veggies were crunchy and the fish was soft and flakey.
5. Fried chicken with shrimp chips. Shrimp chips weren't as crispy/crunchy as I like. Chicken was ok. This course wasn't bad, but nothing special in my opinion.
6. Fried pork. Really crunchy, but super salty and super garlicky.
7. Steamed white fish. I didn't eat this.
8. Lobster. Cut into pieces and stir-fried with onions and garlic. Very delicious. My second favourite dish.
9. Scallops with broccoli, straw mushrooms, carrots and garlic. My third favourite dish. Veggies were al dente and scallops were plump and tasty.
10. Abalone, shiitake mushrooms and greens. This was my second time ever having abalone. I must say, I appreciated it much more this time. I liked the slightly chewy and somewhat creamy texture.
11. Noodles with mushrooms and green onions. I liked it. The noodles were different than noodles I've had at other Chinese restaurants. Not as dense as udon noodles. Tasted light and fluffy. I later learned they were E-fu noodles and they get their fluffy texture from soda water in the dough!
12. Fried rice with shrimps and squid. Yummy. Not too oily. Full of flavour.
13. Sesame seed balls and jelly with goji berries. I only had the jelly. The jelly was like Jello, but less sweet and somewhat herbal in flavour. It was interesting.
14. Sweet tofu. I did not have any.
Overall, an extravagant feast. I waddled out of there happy and stuffed. The food here is similar to those of Chinese banquet halls in the GTA. I'm not sure if they have westernized items on their menu like General Tao Chicken, sweet and sour chicken balls, etc. but the items we had were more authentic Chinese dishes. Also chopsticks and tea were the default. If you want water or a fork and knife, you have to request it.
With the exception of our multiracial/multicultural group, everyone else in the restaurant that evening was Asian, and it seemed like everyone else was speaking to the staff in Chinese. So I think this place serves real legit Chinese food, lol.
The restaurant is in a strip mall. There's free parking. -

Super disappointed. I ordered half a spicy chicken dish and was told the full cost was $15-16, so half of it would be $7-8. When I went to pick up the food, I was charged $18 and they told me that the full chicken dish would normally be around $30...not good business practice! :(

It is a basement level restaurant with great valued foods. The overall environment is similar to a traditional Chinese restaurant. Clean washrooms and dining area. The staff is decent due to their lack of fluent English speaking, but it is not expected as it is a Chinese restaurant. The food is excellent in large servings and dessert is usually free.

Decent food, but horrendous customer service. Would not be returning unless I was absolutely desperate.
